A sweet and spicy cocktail made with mango juice, tequila, Tajin, hot sauce, and beer. This spicy mango michelada is the perfect poolside drink this summer!
I love summer parties. Cookouts, picnics, pool parties, outdoor celebrations, and summer holidays are kind of my thing. It is one of the main reasons I love summer so much. Summer weekends are not meant to be spent inside.
I’m sure we can all agree that the best part of summer parties is the food and drink, and a spicy mango michelada is sure to get the party started!
Michelada is a Mexican drink made with beer, lime juice, and a combination of sauces and spices. This one is made mango-flavored for a delicious tropical and fruity taste. I just know you are going to love it, especially when enjoyed by the poolside!

Frequently Asked Questions
This mango beer michelada is a great make-ahead cocktail. You can mix the drink together (except for the beer) in a pitcher and keep it covered in the fridge. When you are ready to serve, simply pour it over ice and top up with the beer so it has a slight fizz to it.
The recipe is easily doubled and tripled too, so for larger parties you can make a big pitcher for everyone to enjoy.
It’s easy to control the heat in your mango michelada. For those not very tolerant of spicy flavors, you can use a little less hot sauce. I really like to use Frank’s RedHot Sauce. It is a condiment that enhances food, not overpowers it with fire. It has the perfect blend of flavor and heat. Of course, if you like it super spicy, feel free to add a little more!
When ordering a michelada at a bar, Tecate is often the beer used. It’s light and crisp with a hint of malty flavors. Other Mexican beers like Corona and Sol work great too. In a pinch, a light lager will do the job nicely.
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Tajin is a Mexican seasoning made with chili and lime. It is widely available and can be found in the spice and herbs aisle.
- Use more or less hot sauce depending on your tastes. I suggest to make it up with one tablespoon of hot sauce and then increase it to suit.
- Don’t add ice until you are ready to serve or it will dilute the flavors.
Needless to say, this Spicy Mango Michelada is always a crowd-pleaser. I have made it a few times since then and everyone who has tried it loves it! Make it by the pitcher for larger parties.
