This healthy pineapple and spinach smoothie is sweet and delicious with no sugar added. The perfect to kick-start your new year in a healthy way.
My new year has kind of started very s-l-o-w-l-y. I have no idea what it’s wrong, but I find myself dragging through everything. Maybe the overindulgence during the holidays has caught up with me and it is time to start making healthier choices in my eating habits.
That last line almost sounds like a lie coming from me. You see, many of us believe that healthy eating is synonymous of bland, highly under-seasoned food. I truly believe this is a cultural belief. Dominicans do not do healthy eating. Really, think about it; tostones, chicharon, mofongo, chimichurri, yaroas, patacón, longaniza and mangú are the staples of Dominican cooking and they are not what you would call “healthy.”
Nonetheless, I have made it a point to incorporate small healthier eating habits into my day. This pineapple and spinach smoothie is a great step towards a healthier lifestyle.
Smoothies really help me get more vegetables into my meals and are a great hiding place for awesome vegetables such as spinach and kale. Plus, it tastes delicious too!

This smoothie contains around 240 calories and 4 grams of protein, so I prefer to drink this as a mid afternoon pick me up. If you want to enjoy this for breakfast, I would suggest that you add in a scoop of protein powder or some oats to add more energy and keep you filling full til lunch.
Recipe Notes and Tips
- Blend the ingredients for at least a minute to make sure that there are no lumps.

Smoothies are awesome to valance out your daily food intake. When I see, I have gone a little too far with the bread, fried food, pasta and rice, I use it as a detox to clean out my body and start over.
