Apple Pie Smoothie ~ All the flavors of apple pie served in a glass.

Two smoothies in glasses next to a pile of fresh apples.

Being a working mom is hard. There are literally not enough hours in the day for everything that needs to happen. After school activities, helping with homework, cooking, cleaning, laundry, grocery shopping, when do we get to do it all and have some time for ourselves?

Because we are always busy, on-the-go, struggling to manage  our never ending to do list, it can be very difficult to take good care of our bodies. Grabbing the fastest, easiest and most unhealthy of meals becomes the norm when we are in a rush. Well, what if I tell you that it doesn't have to be that way? You can take little steps to ensure that you are taking care of yourself first.

An apple pie smoothie poured into two glasses and topped with cinnamon.

Eating healthy when coming from a culture that embraces unhealthy eating habits daily is very difficult. How can one eat healthy when coming from a world where roasted pork and empanadas rule? Really?

My grandmother did not believe in a balance diet. I grew up eating mangu with fried cheese for dinner, rice, beans and meat for lunch, and boiled plantains with fried eggs and onions with a bunch of grease for dinner. Some of my favorite Dominican foods are the fried ones. I'm talking kipes, yaniqueques, chimis, empanadas; all street foods.

The reality is that we need to take care of ourselves and a good way of doing that is by finding ways to incorporate little changes in our lifestyle that helps us eat better. Thankfully, I have made little changes in my diet to make sure I eat healthy but can still enjoy el arroz, la carne y las habichuelas (the rice, the meat and the beans) that are such staples in Hispanic cooking.

    Ingredients to make the smoothie.

One of the things I do to eat healthy is prepare delicious healthy smoothies with fruits, vegetables and protein powder that boost my energy levels and I can drink on the go. Smoothies are great because you can create any flavor you choose and make them in only 5 minutes.

This Apple Pie Smoothie is one of my favorites. It's like having a slice of homemade apple pie in a glass.

I made the smoothie using Vega Essentials protein powder, which I recently bought at Target. Vega Essentials is gluten-free, vegan, and made with no added sugar, dairy, or soy ingredients, artificial flavors, colors, or sweeteners. It provides a great way to get the nutrition you need and get on with your day. Plus, it tastes delicious too!

To make this apple pie smoothie simply add apples, almond milk, apple pie spice, honey and Vega essential protein powder. I found some beautiful honey crisp apples at my local market that worked perfectly in my smoothie. I loved it so much I might just make it everyday until Fall is over.

How do you make your smoothies?

That is super creative. I love Vega so much I couldn't even begin to describe it. We use it all the time in our recipes and my kids are always excited to have it.

Thank you Elayna. Vega is great! We love it here too. My son couldn't have enough of this apple pie smoothie. I had a lot of fun making this recipe. I know I will be using Vega more often on different recipes. Thank you for passing by and leaving a comment.

I don't have almond milk but I do have coconut milk. Don't have apple pie spice but I do have ground cinnamon, nutmet and ginger. Don't have that protein powder but I do have organic hemp protein powder. I am going to kitchen to make it now and will let you know how it tastes.
