It’s the beginning of a new year, and for many of us, that means resetting our diets after all the food fun from the holidays. One of the things I do to eat healthy is to prepare delicious smoothies with fruits, vegetables, and protein powder, like this apple pie smoothie, that boost my energy levels and that I can drink on the go.
Smoothies are great because you can create any flavor you choose and make them in only 10 minutes. This dairy-free apple pie smoothie recipe is one of my favorites because it’s like having a slice of homemade apple pie in a glass.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Apple pies are delicious on their own, but having them as a smoothie is a different kind of experience. It’s kind of like having a Pumpkin Spiced Latte during fall but even healthier. This apple pie smoothie is dairy free and it’s loaded with so many nutrients like vitamin c, fiber, and protein.
Ingredients
Apples – any kind of apple works. You may use Granny Smith, Fuji, Red, or Gala. I prefer Gala apples because I enjoy the taste better.
Protein Powder – This is optional, but I like to add it to my smoothies for a boost in protein.
Apple Pie Spice – I used apple pie spice in this recipe, which you can get at the grocery store. You can substitute with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg, and a pinch of cardamom.
Honey – To add a little more sweetness.
Almond Milk – You can use regular whole milk if that is what you have on hand. I use unsweetened vanilla almond milk as a dairy-free option. You can also use soy milk or any other milk substitute of your choice.
Ice – You know, to make it cold.
Whipped Cream – This is optional.
Step-by-Steps Instructions
Cut the apples into slices. Add all the ingredients into a power blender and blend until smooth.
Serve it immediately and top it with whipped cream if you’d like. Sprinkle a bit of apple pie spice to garnish.
Serving Suggestions
This smoothie can be great for on the go when you need something to fuel you in the morning or alongside a simple breakfast such as scrambled eggs and toast.
Recipe Variations
- You can also add one or two spoonfuls of Greek yogurt for some extra protein and thickness to your smoothie.
- If you prefer not to use honey for whatever reason, you can opt for any other type of sweetener such as stevia, agave, or maple syrup.
- If you’d like, add a pinch of cinnamon for an extra kick of warm spice.
- Adding rolled oats will also add body and thickness to your smoothie.

Storage Tips
There are so many ways to store your smoothie when you want to consume it later. In either a mason jar, food storage container, or juice bags, you can store blended smoothies in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
However, make sure to double-check from time to time to ensure they have not oxidized or turned brown. You can also have some fun by freezing your smoothies and making a popsicle. Freezing your smoothie will last you up to 3 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
I don’t think it’s necessary to peel the apples to make a smoothie, but this is really a matter of preference. They can also be cut whichever way you like. I recommend cutting the apple in slices to ensure it doesn’t get caught in the blender.
To turn this smoothie recipe into a smoothie bowl, it may be worth using a little less milk to ensure that you get a thick consistency. Then, transfer your smoothie into a bowl and top it with some granola, a dollop of yogurt, chia seeds, or chopped-up fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, or bananas.
A high-speed power blender is best to use for making smoothies to make sure that all ingredients are broken down completely and you get a smooth texture drink. Some of the best blenders to make smoothies are Blendtec, Vitamix, Nutribullet, and Ninja.
