    Frequently Asked Questions

    What Is Dominican Salami?

We use Dominican salami in this recipe, not Italian salami. Dominican salami is made with pork and spices and it's lightly smokey and salted. It has quite a different flavor profile from the Italian variety.

    Where To Find Dominican Salami

You are most likely to find it in a grocery store that carries Hispanic products. I buy my Dominican Salami in the cold cuts area of my local supermarket. If you can’t find it in your area you can also buy it online here.

Can you make it ahead of time?

Salami Guisado is a great make-ahead meal, in fact, I often make extra as the leftovers are so tasty!

    How To Store Salami

Once the stew is cooked, let it cool and then place it into an airtight container. It will keep well in the fridge for up to 4 days and can be reheated on the stovetop to serve.

    Can you freeze it?

Yes! This stewed Dominican salami is great for freezer meals and will keep well for up to 3 months. Thaw it in the fridge overnight before reheating on the stovetop.

What do you serve it with?

This stew works great with most of your favorite Dominican-style sides. From rice to plantains, there's really no wrong answer here! Try it with:
    White Rice
    Mangu (Dominican Mashed Plantains)
    Tostones (Fried Green Plantains)
Arroz con Maiz (Rice and Corn)
    Boiled Yuca with Onions

    Recipe Notes and Tips

    • You can easily add additional veggies to this dish if you like. Carrots and mushrooms both work great.
    • If making ahead of time, let the salami guisado cool completely before storing.
    • Chop the salami into similar sized pieces so that it cooks through evenly.
