Watermelon Agua Fresca ~ Cool down with this sweet, fruity and refreshing drink that is perfect for hot summer days.
It sure is hot here in South Florida. I had a very long time I did not feel this type of heat. The way the sun shines and burns in this side of the country is nothing compared to hot summer days in New York. I’m not complaining, though. I love the heat. We still look for ways to keep cool in order to truly enjoy every little bit of this wonderful summer, and hot summer days are better met with agua fresca. Watermelon agua fresca to be exact.
But, what is agua fresca you may ask?
Agua fresca, which is Spanish for fresh water, is a light, non-alcoholic beverage usually made with fruit, cereals and/or seeds typically served by street vendors throughout Central America and Mexico. It contains only a small amount of sugar and it’s better served really cold.
I have tried a few different flavors of agua fresca that are equally as delicious. However, the watermelon agua fresca is by far my favorite. It is light and sweet. Simply blend watermelon, water and a little simple syrup. I added a bit of freshly squeezed lime juice to give it a slight tart taste. If refrigerating overnight like I did, I suggest adding a few mint leaves, which will add freshness to the drink. That’s about it. Isn’t that simple? Now, just serve yourself a glass or two.
Keep cool my friends. Keep cool.
TIP: Instead of ice, freeze small pieces of watermelon and add them to your agua fresca. This will cool your beverage and once you are done drinking it, you can snack on the pieces of fruit.
