Delicious Pico de Gallo recipe, also known as salsa fresca made with fresh tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice. It’s perfect with tacos, burritos, enchiladas, flautas or your favorite meat and fish dishes.

    What is Pico de Gallo

Pico de Gallo is a traditional Mexican recipe also known as salsa fresca or salsa cruda. It is made with fresh tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapeño, and lime juice. This salsa can be served as a dip for tortillas or serve as a topping for tacos, burritos, enchiladas, flautas or your favorite meat and fish dishes. It pairs well practically with anything.

Lately, I have been obsessed with this pico de gallo recipe and have been making it every week to top all of my meals.

Pico de gallo ingredients (tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapeño) in a bowl before mixing. Lime on the side.

What does Pico de Gallo Mean

The literal translation for pico de gallo is ‘rooster’s beak.’ Now, I have no idea why this salsa is named after a body part of a bird, but I can assure you that it’s one of the best recipes you’d like in your lifetime.

How to Make Pico de Gallo

Dice the tomato, onion, and jalapanño. Add cilantro that has been roughly chopped. Squeeze fresh lime juice and add salt and pepper.

    1. First, toss the tomato, onion, jalapeño, and cilantro together in a large bowl.
    2. Squeeze fresh lime juice and season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything to combine.
    3. Serve with tortilla chips or as a topping for tacos, nachos, enchiladas, carne asada or your favorite meal.
    4. You can store in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to a week.

My favorite thing about this salsa is that you can really put it on anything and it’ll always pair perfectly with your favorite dish. It’s made with only six simple ingredients and it’s ready in just 10 minutes!

This is really the perfect salsa to make for any gathering or special occasion. Bring it to your next potluck. Make it at the family's cookout. There's really no way you can go wrong with this recipe because it just goes well with everything.

There's also so much versatility in this salsa. You can practically add in fruit and have a completely different recipe that tastes just as good. Some other ingredients you can add to this recipe include:

    • Peach
    • Mango
    • Pineapple
    • Strawberries
    • Shrimp
    • Avocado
    • Fish
    • Corn

    The possibilities are endless!
