- 2 green plantains, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- Salt to taste
Preheat a 6-quart air fryer to 390 degrees F.
Meanwhile, peel the plantains and cut them into 1-inch pieces.
Place the plantains in a large mixing bowl. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons oil and toss well to coat. Add them in a single layer to the air fryer basket and cook for 8 minutes turning them halfway through, or until tender.
Remove the plantains from the basket. Press the plantains into ¼-inch thick discs using a tostonera.
Brush the plantains with the remaining oil.
Working in batches as needed, return the plantains to the basket and air fry at 390 degrees F for about 8 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Sprinkle with sea salt and serve as desired.
- Use super green plantains – The greener, the better! Ripe plantains will be too sweet and soft for tostones.
- Don’t skip the double-fry method – This is key for that crispy, restaurant-style texture.
- Don’t overcrowd the air fryer – Give the plantains space to crisp up properly.
