- ½ cup rolled oats (40 g)
- 4 cups whole milk (960 ml)
- ⅓ cup sugar (67 g)
- ¼ teaspoon salt (1.5 g)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (5 ml)
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- ⅛ teaspoon ground cloves (0.25 g)
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg (0.25 g)
Add the rolled oats and milk to a blender. Blend for 1 to 2 minutes, until the oats are finely broken down and the mixture looks smooth.
Pour the blended mixture into a large pot and place over medium-high heat.
Add the sugar, salt, vanilla extract, cinnamon sticks, ground cloves, and nutmeg. Stir to combine.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the drink thickens slightly and reduces by about one quarter.
Remove the cinnamon sticks and discard.
Serve warm.
- For a smoother texture, you can strain the mixture after blending to remove any remaining oat solids. This step is optional if the oats are well blended.
- Stir occasionally while simmering to prevent sticking and ensure even thickening.
- Adjust sweetness to taste before serving if needed.
